The abortion-supporting media outlets recently had a messy collision with Senator Marco Rubio over his assertions about climate and life science. Rubio questioned why the same people who touted climate data as settled science often ignore the scientific facts about life when it comes to the abortion debate.
Rubio said in an appearance on Fox News’s Hannity program:
All these people always wag their finger at me about ‘science’ and ‘settled science.’ Let me give you a bit of settled science that they’ll never admit to. Science is settled, it’s not even a consensus, it is a unanimity, that human life begins at conception. So I hope the next time that someone wags their finger about science, they’ll ask one of these leaders on the left: ‘Do you agree with the consensus of scientists that say that human life begins at conception?’ I’d like to see someone ask that question.
Looks as though major media is practicing science-denial à la Roe v. Wade, the highly controversial 1973 court case that legalized abortion on demand in the United States, which stated in its majority decision (emphasis added):
Texas urges that, apart from the Fourteenth Amendment, life begins at conception and is present throughout pregnancy, and that, therefore, the State has a compelling interest in protecting that life from and after conception. We need not resolve the difficult question of when life begins. When those trained in the respective disciplines of medicine, philosophy, and theology are unable to arrive at any consensus, the judiciary, at this point in the development of man’s knowledge, is not in a position to speculate as to the answer.
For the record, “man’s knowledge” was as developed on the reality of life beginning at conception (aka fertilization) then as it is now. But science was not convenient for those seeking to legalize abortion, so they resorted to a cop-out and placed the burden of proof on an unprecedented consensus among three fields of study, all the facets of which will never converge at a unanimous answer to any one question…ever.
The media loves to bring “science” into almost every debate but can’t touch the basic question of when life begins with a ten-foot pole. Double-standard? Marco Rubio believes so.
