Donald Trump to defund International Planned Parenthood on anniversary of Roe v. Wade

Today marks a day of hope for the pro-life movement, one that is being called the “dawn of a pro-life administration.” Across the nation, pro-lifers are hopeful that newly sworn-in President Donald Trump will keep his promises and do his part to restore a culture of life in the United States.

And it appears that this hope is not unfounded. According to Foreign Policy, a congressional staffer has revealed that President Trump plans to reinstate the Mexico City Policy on Sunday. Sunday will be the 44th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, the Supreme Court decision that forced abortion-on-demand on all fifty states. Roe‘s unconstitutional directives have led to the deaths of 59 million preborn children and counting — many through procedures like the D&E abortion explained below by a former abortionist. Many Americans have yet to realize how tragically commonplace these violent procedures have become.

The Mexico City Policy “renders foreign non-government organizations (such as the International Planned Parenthood Federation and Marie Stopes International) ineligible for taxpayer dollars if they perform or promote abortions.” Under this policy, the government recognizes that the majority of American taxpayers do not want their hard-earned money funding organizations that commit abortions on vulnerable women and girls around the world.

The Mexico City Policy also recognizes the common sense concept of fungibility. When money is passed to an organization for one purpose, the rest of the organization’s funds are freed up to spend on whatever they choose. Clearly, when taxpayer dollars go to Planned Parenthood — internationally or at home — they help to fund abortions, due to the basic principles of fungibility.

Reinstating the Mexico City Policy is one way to stop the inhumanity of abortion internationally. It’s a way for the United States to support the civil rights of all, including the most vulnerable and innocent among us. And it’s a way to acknowledge that abortion is not the be-all, end-all solution for poor and needy women that Planned Parenthood pretends it is. Abortion creates a new host of problems, and women deserve more effective, real solutions to their health needs that do not result in dead children.

Ending funding to International Planned Parenthood and similar organizations should enable the U.S. government to more effectively care for medical needs around the world without the inhumanity of abortion getting in the way. And it’s a great, first, pro-life step for President Donald Trump. Let’s encourage the new president to follow this up by defunding Planned Parenthood at home, too.
