California bill to allow non-doctors to perform abortions has been halted!

Score one for the good guys in the Golden State! But our work isn’t done yet.

Today, pro-lifers in California have a reason to celebrate: SB 1338 (a bill which would allow non-doctors to perform first-trimester abortions) has been halted.

After the bill was passed out of the Senate Public Safety Committee this Tuesday, things looked grim in California. But often it takes a large amount of pressure to move people into action. It worked! Pro-lifers posted links and articles on every social networking site out there, and they stormed the senators’ offices with phone calls (which I heard outnumbered the pro-abort calls 10-1). Even the California Nurses Association (know for advocating for abortion on demand) actively opposed this bill. Together we made sure that pro-life voices were certainly heard!

Senators Juan Vargas and Lou Correa joined Republicans in opposing the bill today, which was halted on a 4-4 vote. But it doesn’t stop there. SB 1338 is now in a state of limbo, and it will be re-voted on in the next couple weeks. Now is the time to keep the pressure on our senators to vote “no” on this bill. Continue to call their offices! Send them e-mails! Tweet to them! Spread links on Facebook! Let them know that we do not want health care standards lowered.

As pro-life advocate Heather Keevers stated:

SB1338 is bad for women. Women deserve better than this. Nurses and midwives are not qualified to perform invasive procedures. Women deserve to have actual surgeons performing their surgeries. This bill would lower the standard of care for women seeking abortion. This isn’t about pro-choice vs. pro-life, this is about common sense and public safety[.]

Whether you are pro-life or pro-choice, this bill would gravely change our medical standards in California. Don’t let it happen! Keep the pressure on our senators, and urge them to prevent this bill from passing in early May! Visit here for the contact info for the senators, and contact them!

“So long as there is breath in me, that long will I persist. For now I know one of the greatest principles of success; If I persist long enough I will win.” -Og Mandino, American author

Your voice will continue to be heard in this battle for life, but the volume of your voice depends on how much effort you put into this. Be persistent and continue to fight the good fight!
