Facebook page promotes abortion, attacks child with a terminal condition

Facebook has become a major communications network for people of all ages throughout the world. Created as a way to allow high school friends to keep in touch after heading to college, the social media site has erupted into a place where people are free to bully and free to create offensive, harmful pages. One such page is simply titled “Abortions.”

Despite countless e-mails to Facebook to remove the page, Facebook refuses. It doesn’t consider the page offensive or involved in hate speech despite the fact that the page’s creator continuously posts pictures of a girl who lives with Progeria, calling her ugly and comparing her to vampires. But the Abortions page’s main purpose is to make light of abortion, from comments about all aborted babies being in hell to cartoons of a man kicking a pregnant woman in the belly. The page has over 7,000 likes.

Melissa Ohden, abortion survivor and pro-life speaker, says the following about Abortions on Facebook:

The disconnect on this page is striking. To me, it’s symptomatic of our culture. So many people believe they are exceptional, but they never believe that they could have easily been an exception (unplanned, expected to have a disability, etc) and therefore aborted.

The administrators believe that abortion is necessary. They believe that in the first and second trimesters, the unborn child is nothing but “skin cells.” And they are sharing these warped, uneducated opinions with vulnerable young people on Facebook every day.

Ohden isn’t surprised by the page, as it isn’t anything she hasn’t seen before. She says:

As an abortion survivor, I’m appalled but not surprised by this page and others like it. The Internet and social media create positive opportunities for educating and networking, but likewise, create the opportunity for people to engage in de-humanizing behaviors. Not surprisingly, most of these people, when given the opportunity to say something face to face to me, other survivors, or the individuals and families that they target on their page, wouldn’t say these things. They say they would, but experience has shown me that they wouldn’t. It is ‘safe’ for them to act this way on the internet.

It turns out that their reach is going beyond Facebook. The two page administrators don’t stop at calling aborted babies “lumps of meat,” posting pictures of just-born babies in toilets, or attacking a child with disabilities online; they recently spoke on a radio show, sharing their opinion of abortion with anyone who would listen. They consider themselves pro-abortion, saying it is the correct choice because of overpopulation (although one of them says that there is room on the planet and resources, too). They also suggest that men slip abortion pills into their pregnant partners’ breakfast. They go on to compare unborn children to pigs, leaving the radio hosts momentarily speechless. They even promote infanticide, calling it morally acceptable.

During the radio show, one of the administrators thinks he’s blown our minds by saying that we’re killing potential life any moment that we aren’t having sex. He says that there is no difference between adult pigs and newborn babies, and when the radio host responds that the baby has more potential than the pig, the administrator argues unsuccessfully that anyone who is currently not having sex at this very moment is therefore aborting potential life.

While we can hope that the absurdity of the Abortions page won’t influence anyone, it is likely that its posts, which can be seen when a friend comments on them, will affect some young Facebook users.

Whether you’re pro-choice or pro-life, you should find the Abortions page offensive, just as it is likely offensive to abortion survivors, women who regret their abortions, and people with disabilities. Report the page to Facebook. Our voices will change the way the world views abortion and the level of respect we show for others.

Won’t work as it’s clearly not hate speech. Who says being compared to a vampire isn’t a good thing after twilight’s success ?

OLOLOL GAY. lol smoke weed it helps. le trick face XD

  • Eric

Free speech. No matter how offensive or uneducated. Don’t censor my internet. Fuck yourself.

  • Emily

This whole article is stupid. It’s called “Freedom of Speech”. If you don’t like what the page is posting, then don’t go to it. Simple as that. To force your beliefs of being “Pro-choice” onto anyone is unbelievable. You can’t control the choices anyone else makes.

    • EATALLTHEBABIES

That’s exactly why this website is hilarious. First they say “OMG FREE SPEECH”, and then they say “OMG, I’M OFFENDED TAKE THAT DOWN!”

    • GloriaRT

Freedom of speech means, also, anyone can express against something that offends their principles!!!. Let’s try something, Why we do not open a page of insults and satire about you and your family? How would you feel? But, Pro-life’s don´t do that, unlike pro-choice’s.

      • Evan

Gloria, do you realize that you said “why we do not open?” For one, I am smart enough to not take the internet seriously, so I wouldn’t be offended by that page. Also, the Facebook page quoted in this article, 1,000,000 million people to take down the abortions page is a site by pro-lifers on which most of its members personally insult the members of the abortions page.
The proper analogy for you to use would be for you to open a page of insults and satire about pro-choicers in general, not about Emily personally, since the abortions page isn’t about you and your family in specific. The blanket statement that no pro-lifer personally insults a pro-choicer is false, just view the 1,000,000 people page and you will see it is full of people saying that pro-choicers should have been aborted by their mothers and are going to hell. Once again, your argument is poorly thought out and invalid.

    • http://www.facebook.com/adampeter.conroy Adam Peter Conroy

Free speech is not an absolute right and it comes with the responsibility of not making extremely violent, offensive and purely destructive comments.
This is what’s happening here. It’s not a choice issue. It’s an issue of extremely sick online bullying verging on the criminal.

      • Bee

if they’re bullying actual people to their face, that’s wrong. I find this page just as disgusting and offensive as anyone else. But guess what? They have the right to think their stupid beliefs, I have the right to hate it. I don’t have the right to not be offended by other peoples opinions

  • DARK WYND

wow you dont know crude humor laughing at abortions isnt the worst thing that we do the world is a sick and twisted place and i love every demented part of that sickness and believe me the only way any of you will get rid of that sickness is to kill us all lmao

Why do you wish to censor another page? Their page is meant for the purposes of trolling and eliciting certain responses from other people. If they offend you at all, simply ignore them like a mature adult would. The internet is a vast place full of offensive material and offensive material. Simply removing one page will not stop them, because they would just come back anyway. There is no logic in removing every page, every word, or every person who comes off as offensive. They have the right to free speech; just as you do

This article is insane. It’s safe to assume that neither the whiny half-wit author nor her whiny half-wit following have heard of “satire.” I recommend you take a look at Jonathan Swift’s “A Modest Proposal” if you need something to be outraged about next.

    • http://www.facebook.com/jeremy.vezina.1 Jeremy Vezina

Please don’t remind me about that book. Cannibalism is a pretty sick form of satire

    • GloriaRT

You are rigth Dolly, something more outraged than the Facebook page, it,is to read comments from people like you, that think that it is funny or inconsequential to ridicule and humiliated aborted babies and children with disabilities. Poor you…

this article couldn’t be more wrong.. i am pro-life, but i am often humiliated by the comments the pro-lifers and the people from the “1,000,000 people to take down the abortions page” comments. the people who are in charge of the abortions page do this because it’s funny to see how you idiots react about it!! it’s called trolling, people.. look it up. i liked the abortions page just so i can shake my head and watch you guys take the page seriously! even publishing this article is giving the “abortions” page publicity.. just like the gay activists who are protesting chick-fil-a.. look what happened, chick-fil-a has had record high sales.. you are just promoting the abortions page whether you like it or not! sometimes i am ashamed to be in the same group as most of you pro-lifers.

Oh wow Jennifer you are so smart and above everyone!!! Thanks for the enlightenment but we all already know. It does not matter what their intentions are; its sick, and I don’t believe your pro-life or else you would get that. We are about defending lives, all lives, but because they are torturing innocent little people who can not defend themselves to get a rise out of pro-lifers… you like them? Wow… your sooo cool and cutting edge, has anyone ever told you that?? So… you look a bit rough around the edges… maybe some tatoos and peircings? Don’t fit in with the average pro-lifer? Join the freaking club and be proud of yourself instead of trying to make yourself feel comfortable by putting those that are different from you down. You sound like more of an idiot than they are.

Although I’m not against the sentiments expressed in the article, I find “abortion survivor” to be the MOST pretentious phrase of all time. It’s absurd and its absurdity multiplied by the self-righteousness with which people (mostly women) wield it.

    • http://twitter.com/MarauderTheSN Marauder

Melissa’s mom tried to abort Melissa and Melissa survived. I think “abortion survivor” is a pretty good description of Melissa’s experience with abortion…

    • Kristiburtonbrown

I’m curious why you think it’s absurd, self-righteous, or pretentious when there truly are people who have survived abortion attempts. No one is making this stuff up – they are real people and real stories. Read the book “Gianna” by Jessica Shaver or look up Gianna Jessen online for the abortion survivor who’s probably the most famous.

Alot of the people commenting on this are being un-necessarily rude to the writer of the article but the fact of the matter is Nancy that the abortions page is simply satire. The people who like it are mostly pro-choice but the page claims to be ‘pro-abortion’ to point out how ridiculous the idea of being ‘pro-life’ is.

In mine and alot of other people who like that pages opinion the choice of getting an abortion should be up to the individual person and people who are ‘pro-life’ and campaign against abortion are just as biased as someone who was to start campaigning to be pro-abortion. Pretty much none of the people who like that page are ‘pro-abortion’ as the page claims and yes alot of the supposed humor on the page is tasteless or offensive but the reason they post such things is to get a reaction out of people like you and point out how ridiculous and biased the idea of being ‘pro-life’ and forcing it upon others actually is.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Alyssa-Clare-Stewart/529352822 Alyssa Clare Stewart

This is an old and settled point. You don’t know what your talking about. We share equality by saying “pro-life Pro-choice” rather than saying anti-life and/or anti choice. There is nothing ridiculous about coining the term pro-life, because we are defending, and for the life of a person. OMG I feel like I’m watching the Kardashians… I never thought I’d have to explain this. You find the page as satire and funny?? Well; maybe one day you’ll convert us pro-lifers… I mean not into being anti-life (hehe) but when you die we’ll post a pic of your dead body and be like omg its so funny; it’s satire of course- we are not wrong or immoral. Up to the individual person, by that of course you mean a women. It is their choice and theirs alone and a child you have created may never see the light of day and thats just dandy with you… why do you even have an opinion if in your book it only concerns women? But why go even further and laugh at dead babies. I hate to sound like a crazy christian…. but uhm, have fun in hell.

There are no similarities… you are defending a hypothetical choice, we are defending human life, and little babies at that! Prochoicers force thier opinion, prolifers save lives. Tell me that you have seen an abortion happen, tell me you have seen a baby die during an abortion, tell me you’ve looked for yourself how early they have measurable brain waves, or how insanely early they recognize and love thier Mamas voices. When I was just 4 months pregnant… i had my laptop on my belly, and baby kicked it so hard it jumped back and I caught it before it fell back down. Guess it was uncomfortably warm or annoying her and she wanted it gone… this is not life? She was just 15 weeks gestation and ticked off and trying to get comfortable. She is still the boss to this day- same personality. I- from the bottom of my heart, think that if anyone knew the truth about abortion, they wouldnt support it. But enjoy that bandwagon ride.

  • Evan

It is amazing how people still take things seriously on the internet in this day and age. Quoting that the page has 7,000 likes is also ridiculous considering that there are over 835,000,000 Facebook users. I very doubt that there have been “countless” emails sent to Facebook to remove the page, since very few people actually care enough to try to remove it. Stating that Facebook is no longer a social media site, but a site oriented around bullying is completely false. Take the time to read the actual comments from 1,000,000 people to take down the abortions page and you will see that they are nearly as offensive as the abortions page is. They spend their time telling people that they will burn in hell and that they are horrible people who should have been aborted. How is that much different than the page making fun of abortion?
I am pro abortion, but don’t share the beliefs of the creators of the abortions page. That is if you are stupid enough to believe that the creators of the abortions page believe the things they are saying, and aren’t simply trolling. If you report one page, you should report the other page, since they both commit the same acts of harassment and threats against others. This entire article is written by someone who has the journalistic skills of a 10 year old; my IQ dropped by a few points by the end. If you actually want to accomplish something, writing a personal rant will do nothing, all you are doing is “feeding the trolls” of the abortions page and strengthening it, while weakening the resistance against it.
On a personal note, I truly hope that your children are not legally named Peanut and Cake. Also, please Google the term “butthurt.”

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Alyssa-Clare-Stewart/529352822 Alyssa Clare Stewart

Are you stupid enough that you are not aware of how many people believe it should be legal to kill infants? Or enforced sterilization? How about how many are a part of, or tied to this current administration and are completely open with their opinions. Of course it is entirely likely that the authors believe 100% in what they say but keep telling yourself that to help you live with what you stand for. How can you be “pro-abortion” if you don’t know the reality of it. The author of this particular article is defending us as a community. It may bring light to the jerks who wrote the fb page, but it is a moment where we can come together as a community and stop the misinforming pro-choice community to spread its lack of education. Despite what their intentions are, it’s heartbreaking for EVERY women to have an abortion… and its very easy for these people to find comfort in a past abortion or a future abortion when pages like this exist.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Alyssa-Clare-Stewart/529352822 Alyssa Clare Stewart

and continue to kill… and come on now, really!? your making fun of her “journalistic skills”… well gee- there’s no better way to say in other terms “I know I have a weak defense” its like being an insecure teen-aged girl and calling another girl fat. Stupid, petty, and weakens your point. Have you ever taken a college writing or English class?? Ever read a journal publication? The errors can be insane and the structure can be extremely poor, yet they are written by admirable and intelligent people- just a very lame thing to say all around. I really don’t see how this is poorly written but I’m sure she is sympathetic to the fact that it didn’t meet your standards. *Shutters* I’m just so sorry it wasn’t up to par with the master peice you spewed out above. : (

    Dear, Idiots
God performs abortions every day. Some of yall know it as a miscarage. And I dont here any one getting pissed off at God. Plus. If God didnt want people to have an abortion. He wouldnt have given us the ability to do so. To come up with the idea to abort a fetus or for that idea to become a successful action. I personaly would not want to have an abortion. But I can not stop any one who would. THAT IS THERE CHOICE! YOU DONT KNOW THE RESONS SOME GET AN ABORTION. DONT JUDG THEM TILL YOU KNOW THE RESONS FOR IT. I also feel that you should not have to have a baby or 2 just to get fixed. If you alow people to get fixed that know for damn sher they dont want kids or be pregnant but still wants the right to have sex. Then there would be less abortions in the world.
Love, Proud Mother of 3 fixed and done.

    • Violet Black

-”God” performs abortions on postnatal children, adolescents, adults, and the elderly on a daily basis, which some people know as “natural causes” or “accidents”. There are those who indeed blame God when that happens, but they usually don’t try to use it to justify killing those people themselves.
Maybe if God didn’t want anyone to kill their born relatives/lovers/friends/acquaintances, He wouldn’t have given us the ability to do so. It can actually be faster and easier than a prenatal abortion if you have the right equipment, and can be a very successful action. I’m not saying that because I’ve done it, but it’s something that shows up in the news quite a bit. Sometimes you even hear about mass shootings. If God didn’t want people shoot up movie theaters, He wouldn’t have let mankind build weapons that work, right?
-If you look more closely at this site and the closely affiliated ones, you may notice that the writers DO in fact know people’s reasons for aborting…some because they’ve worked directly to aid those mothers, and some even because they are suffering from the abortions of their own children.
-Who is saying people shouldn’t be able to get sterilized at will? Not that I consider sex a “right” by any means, but I’d run out and get my tubes tied myself if I had a partner and he didn’t mind. Is it a major issue in your home country?

-I laughed when I noticed you start off with “Dear idiots” and end with “Love”. Cute.

  • Albino

Listen, when you put some kind of hate thing up like this, it’s only human nature that a majority of people will be AGAINST you. and when your so far off base with what the page admin is going for ( a joke for fuck sake ) you make yourself sound like a nazi, Your tearing down “freedom of speech” So what if it’s offensive? Aren’t we in america? Don’t we have our own opinions? And about the whole ” Influences young minds” it only pisses YOU off because it’s not YOUR opinion. I am the stay-at-home dad of beautiful child. His conception was somewhat miraculous because the mother has a condition that makes it very hard to get pregnant. We love our son to death.

But not even this has changed my opinion about abortion, especially not about the abortion protesters who gather outside of hospitals with ludicrous picket signs, especially not about the people who call women who’ve been raped “whores” and especially not about the people who kill abortion doctors and bomb abortion clinics. Let’s not forget the politicians who make it their life’s work to dismantle woman’s rights, discontinue funding to important women’s health clinics, and generally dictate what a woman can do with her body.

The “abortions” page might be offensive at times, but it’s nowhere near as offensive as the people that it is taking stabs at. Level the playing field! If we’re gonna have fanatic pro-lifers, we gotta expect fanatic pro-choicers!

    • Nancy’s Flander

It’s only offensive if you’re retarded. The page isn’t manned by fanatics, it’s manned by sarcastics. Sarcastics who enjoy seeing people right things like this article.

    • http://twitter.com/CalFreiburger Calvin Freiburger

Tip: if you want people to believe you’ve seriously thought about the issue, you might wanna refrain from submitting comments consisting entirely of straw men. Come back when you’re ready for an honest, adult conversation.

      • Nick

Lots of content to that reply Calvin. You’ve really made me see the light with your vast wisdom.

        • http://twitter.com/CalFreiburger Calvin Freiburger

It’s not worth my time to pretend you don’t know what’s dishonest about invoking “people who call women who’ve been raped ‘whores’” and “people who kill abortion doctors and bomb abortion clinics.”

The correlation between being pro-choice and being pro-slander is not a coincidence.

          • Evan

You might want to re-learn the definition of straw men arguments, as they aren’t dishonest. They simply put emphasis on extreme opinions. Also, unless you can provide some evidence of the correlation between being pro-choice and being pro-slander, that statement is the most dishonest thing in this thread. Nick didn’t say a single thing that was dishonest or false, and if you don’t believe it then just type his quotes into Google.

          • Nick

Yeah, also my friend was called a whore as she approached an abortion clinic a few years ago. So how’s that for honest? Google is your friend, friend.

          • http://twitter.com/CalFreiburger Calvin Freiburger

You do realize the plural of “anecdote” is not “data,” right?

          • Nick

No? So knowing directly (even witnessing) of a phenomenon does not mean that it actually occurs? That is odd. Odd, indeed.

          • http://twitter.com/CalFreiburger Calvin Freiburger

Wow. It’s rare that I find someone so utterly unable to accurately understand the things other people say. Even among pro-choicers.

But if it amuses you so, just keep on slandering the many with the actions of the few. I hope you someday decide to prefer a more ethical, adult approach.

          • Nick

Adult.. we just seem to keep coming across that word. You really think highly of yourself. Here’s the thing, your words, they way you present yourself.. they are not “mature”, as you would like to think. In so many words, you have called me an idiot, without actually saying anything with any substance. It’s often that I find someone so utterly unable to make points without insulting the other, especially among pro-lifers.

And by the way, when the “few” are politicians, it affects the many.

          • http://twitter.com/CalFreiburger Calvin Freiburger

I respectfully debate ethical comments. That doesn’t include intentional slander – which is exactly what peddling your phony examples, as if they apply to any significant percentage of pro-lifers, is.

          • Nick

ok, well, let me think here. This “abortions” page has 7,000 thousand likes. That is .000014 or so percent of all facebook users. So by your logic the entire article above is a “straw man” argument.

And my examples are not phony, but believe whatever you like I guess.

    • Elise77

The “abortions” page is “nowhere near as offensive” as a dying six year old girl? Is that what you’re saying? Because that’s who the page is “taking stabs at.” You’re gonna defend that? What if that was YOUR “beautiful child” they were mocking?

I don’t even know anyone who’s called a victim of rape a “whore.” If such a person exists, they certainly don’t represent the pro-life community. Of course, those of us on this side of the fence hear an awful lot of name-calling from YOUR camp. Just so you know.

You realize that there are already examples of violence and even murder among pro-”choicers,” and that’s not counting the dead babies? An elderly gentleman was shot to death in my state for holding a sign and praying in front of a clinic. An elderly woman had her sign ripped out of her hands and was physically assaulted. Pro-lifers were quick to denounce (the baby murderer) George Tiller’s murder. Where are the pro-”choicers” denouncing the violence from THEIR camp?

      Shhh… Hear it? Crickets chirping.

Is a picket sign with a picture of a baby who’s been aborted “ludicrous” then? The truth’s “ludicrous” now? I guess ridiculing something must make it easier to dismiss. Doesn’t make it untrue, though. Just means you’re in denial.

I’m a woman, and I don’t have the right to kill my unborn children. The government may presume to grant me that “right” but it’s not theirs to give, any more than it was the government’s place to grant some people the “right” to keep others as slaves. Furthermore, to presume that I NEED that so-called “right” implies that I am fundamentally inferior to men. Men don’t have a “right” to destroy their offspring. Why would I need that “right”? My womb’s not a liability unless I make it one. How demeaning to women to insist that they need some contrived “rights” at the expense of others.

Nobody’s trying to “generally dictate what a woman can do with her body.” That’s blatant ignorance. I don’t care if a woman cuts her feet off, pierces her eyelids, eats a cup each of ball bearings and magnets, or sleeps with everything classified as a vertebrate. I don’t care what chemicals she ingests, provided she doesn’t demand that I pay for them. I only care about the innocent human being who may be at her mercy. THAT IS NOT HER BODY. THAT IS SOMEONE ELSE’S BODY. Is this too hard to grasp? Learn some basic biology, maybe.

      • Nick

I’m not sure the purpose of that whole dying six year old girl thing.. it’s really tacky and doesn’t seem to serve any purpose. You’re right, that sort of thing annoys me about the abortions page. I’m not going to pretend that the admins aren’t immature or idiotic.

You don’t know anyone who’s called a victim of rape a ‘whore’, that doesn’t mean that it doesn’t happen. Many women who you say “don’t have the right to kill their unborn child” are pregnant because they were raped. Subsequently they go to a clinic somewhere and are harangued by a gauntlet of pro-life individuals on the way, some of which are calling them ‘whores’ and ‘sinners’. It happens, believe it.

I’m sorry to hear about the people who were assailed in your state. I don’t know enough about the case to speculate on the impetus for the attacks, but if it actually is pro-choice fanaticism that’s awful. Violence is unacceptable on either side.

A picket sign with a picture of an aborted baby is ludicrous. It’s manipulative, does nothing to portray the agony of the mother or the story behind the abortion. It’s about as effective and intelligent as a bumper sticker.

Ah, now we come to the ‘life begins at the point of conception’ argument. Well, no, no it doesn’t. The mother is attached to the cluster of cells you call a “human being”. She has the right to decide if she has the ability to give this cluster of cells a decent life.

Yes, anyone who wants to cut funding to clinics that support woman’s health is dictating what a woman can do with her body. A fetus is A PART OF THE MOTHER. It is not a baby. A baby exists in free space, under the mother’s care but not a part of her anatomy. Making a moral judgement and using it as an excuse to bar impoverished mothers from getting the proper healthcare is a violation of human rights above and beyond any mother choosing not to have a baby.

    This article should be aborted.

  • Nick

Oh.. I was ready to have a spirited debate over this issue with other commentators, when I saw the other articles this woman has written.

    Buh-bye now.

    • GloriaRT

Oh Nick, This is so sad…. I could not believe that you are able to have a mature and logical conversation of… anything. To insult and ridicule this “woman” and her writing is a proof of you great capacity to have a “spirited debate”. LOL

      • Evan

The real proof of inability to have a “spirited debate” is this comment of yours, which does nothing but insult without providing any useful ideas or facts.

      • Nick

        LOL. try me.

      • Nick

did nothing to insult this woman, i simply believe that her and her followers will never see eye to eye with me and my like-minded cohorts, that’s all.

  • michelle

You aren’t a journalist at all and this article is just absolute trite!

  • Aidan

It’s a joke page, the take abortions off page is much more offensive.

  • Lula

apparently you’ve got the entire “abortions” page from fb commenting here. trolls with too much time on their hands. unable to form a complete sentence let alone spell. so-called humans who put themselves above everyone else to the point that they find humor in degrading those they feel are insubordinate. that said, we need the “abortions” page as a reminder that some of us are normal, reasonably thinking people.

    • GloriaRT

So true Lula!! People who have too much free time to stroll by visiting internet pages with so much garbage, filth and misery, such as that one in Facebook that make exploiting their little brains with images of aborted babies and children with disabilities.

    • Evan

It is funny how you comment on the spelling and grammar of others while you can’t even capitalize your sentences. How can you claim that anyone who supports the abortions page is “putting themselves above everyone else” while you are claiming to be better than them? Your whole post is hypocrisy. Not to mention that you apparently don’t know the definition of insubordinate. As it has been stated many times, at least half of the people who support the abortions page are most likely normal, reasonable thinking people who enjoy watching others, mostly religious, people, freak out on the internet. I am, in fact, currently getting good grades at a prestigious college, volunteering multiple times per week, and also have a job. Your entire argument is poorly thought out.

      • Lula

fail. your response is elementary. you may disagree with my points, but you certainly don’t address them specifically, with any kind of structure or thought.
what’s so difficult for a college boy to understand?
belittling a 5 year old because of her “abnormal” appearance. a result of the disease she suffers? as if, i’ve seem some great looking people on the page.
with all due respect, quite a few could stand to shed some weight let alone shower, if they show their face at all and use a real name… cowards.
continuously making fun of individuals with mental retardation or downs syndrome, as if any of the degenerates on the page are superior.
kudos for those who are honest on their “about me” page, but i would not say that they were superior in any way. maybe you are different, maybe you have a job and volunteer a few times a week, congrats.
i presently hold a ph.d which is applied everyday at work.

        good ridden.

        • Evan

My response is elementary? Your response is filled with poor grammar and incomplete sentences, which is sad since it was written by someone with a “ph.d.” I addressed every point that you made in your post. I am not sure where you are going with your remarks about the physical appearance of the members of the abortions page, especially since your profile here on this site doesn’t use your full name or show your face. I would love to hear about how your ph.d and job give more back to the community than volunteering at a food pantry that serves the disabled and less fortunate. You are still putting yourself above other people and pointing out how they are inferior to yourself in your posts, which is what you are criticizing others of doing. Please stop being a hypocrite.

Lula… hey, lets just let Evan keep on living the dream. Really?? Your in college and this is what your doing with your free time. Are you angry because everyone else at your sweet school has a social life brah? Ouchies : ( This is supposed to be the time of your life! But keep on reconciling your ways with your reassurance to yourself of volunteering at a food pantry. Have fun at your prestigous college ther killer (< btw the term was meant literally and figuratively)

  • Chester Copperpot

Sure we all have freedom of speech, but there are some things that shouldn’t be said out of common decency such as making fun of dead babies, kicking pregnant women, people with disabilities and the like. A Facebook page making light of abortion is about as tasteful as a page celebrating the Holocaust. It’s disgusting and extremely immature. The people who created the abortion page need to grow up and show some respect for fellow human beings. It’s people like this who would rather hate the world for what it is rather than work to make a positive impact.

    • Evan

Are you really making the comparison of abortion to the Holocaust? Making that argument is the same as making the argument that genocide should be legal, since abortion is legal. Also, what have you done to make a positive impact on the world? As something which relates to this argument, UNICEF estimates that there are 18 million children without parents. How many pro-lifers have adopted a child? I would support making most instances of abortion illegal if there were no children in need of homes, but when there are 18 million of them, anyone who works to prevent abortions should adopt a child. I will view the arguments of any pro-lifer who has adopted as valid, but since there have been so many studies on the adverse effects of orphanhood, anyone who wishes to contribute to the number of children in orphanages is worse than a pro-choice believer.

      • Mom to 3 adopted

Evan-I am pro-life and have adopted 3 of those 18 million. What I can tell, you is this-not all live in countries that allow adoption.it is very expensive to adopt one of these children -over $30000 – because of us govt fees and requirements. The foster care system in this country is seriously broken-leaving kids languishingoftsn times while their foster
Aren’t send years and thousands of dollars trying to adopt them. It’s also important to consider the alternate research about the effects that an abortion has on the mother. Simply becaus ethe system is broken is not a reason to deny a child life. Finaly-there are thousands of prol-life people working tirelessly every day to help keep families together in many of these home countries of these 18 million. If we took the federal funds that are currently spent on abortions at Planned Parenthod and used them to help alleviate the poverty in these countries, that number would be significantly reduced. No child should be denied the right to live, breathe, play, grow and learn becaus Eli’s mom was too poor to let him live.

        • Evan

Adopting an international child does not cost a blanket $30,000, the price ranges start at $15,000. http://www.childwelfare.gov/pubs/s_cost/s_costs.pdf Adopting from the foster care system in this country only costs $0-$2,500.
There are actually very little federal funds spent on abortions at Planned Parenthood, the Hyde Amendment forbids federal funds to be spent on abortions except in cases of life endangerment, rape, and incest. You may have meant the state funds that go to Planned Parenthood for abortions, which is about $270 million nationwide. While this is quite a bit of money, it is estimated that ending poverty would cost about $3,000,000,000,000, well above the money spent on abortions.

        • http://www.facebook.com/people/Alyssa-Clare-Stewart/529352822 Alyssa Clare Stewart

I just really love this!! Thankyou for sharing : ) It made my day to hear and I am so happy for you and your family. My parents tried to adopt about ten or fifteen years ago; the agencies said that my parents had too many kids (there are seven of us) that the youngest child would have to be older than a certain age, that my parents weren’t old enough (they were 35), that they didn’t make enough money ( my parents could afford to live in a nice large home, take us on vacations, etc.). They fostered, and that was very hard, the same biological Mothers who had beat the crap out of them and burn them with cigarettes also got to collect welfare on them, demand they were not adopted, and demand they moved to another home if their child seemed to happy/comfortable. It’s a very broken system but that does not mean they are better of never being born!! sick.

      • Elizabeth

Tons of people compare abortion to the Holocaust (eg. 180 Movie). if you believe that a fetus is a person, then killing 55 million babies would be terribly similar to killing millions of Jews. The argument is saying that abortion should be illegal as genocide is illegal.

        • Evan

“Tons of people?” The 180 movie is a false representation of history as well as a biased sample being passed off as common thought. The creator of the movie is a devout Christian, and tries his best to distance Hitler from the Christian religion. The fact of the matter is that the Catholic Church and the Pope refused to speak out against Hitler until 1937 because they had signed a treaty. The “interviews” in the movie are edited and cut together, so it impossible to determine the context of what is quoted. The movie could possibly be used as an indicator of common thought if each interview preformed was included in the movie, and if each interview was presented unedited.
A fetus is not a person, it lacks the ability to survive independently and it lacks the brain functions necessary for thought until late in the pregnancy. If a fetus is to be defined as anything, it should be a parasite. The definition of a parasite from the American Heritage Medical Dictionary is “An organism that grows, feeds, and is sheltered on or in a different organism while contributing nothing to the survival of its host.”

          • Tina

Evan…you are an idiot who is not worth arguing with. But you are definitely an idiot and that needed to be said. And an obnoxious, clueless one to boot.

          • Evan

How am I an idiot or clueless? Idiots are people who say “you are an idiot” without offering any sort of reason as to why.

          • http://www.facebook.com/people/Alyssa-Clare-Stewart/529352822 Alyssa Clare Stewart

Haha yes, my daughter and the love of my life had the traits of a parasite. She even had the nerve to come out and continue to “grow and feed on or in me” by breastfeeding (yes, I know I know, another controversial thing a lot of us pro-lifers are for) for well over a year, I mean babies latch on and nurse, right? and you know what, looking back, I wonder; did I do the right thing?? Because damn it; I sheltered her during this whole post-partum stage too. She even slept in my bed!! Did i encourage her parasitism?

Maybe, one day, you will have a little parasite of your own, and you’ll raise he or she with your values, and then you’ll get old. I mean, really old, and you’ll be dependent on that child- you’ll move in with that child and will rely on him to care for you as he once depended on his parent in the womb and during childhood. But I wonder if your life will be ended because of your parasitic ways?? I mean if this administration keeps gaining all this power you probably wont have a say and will be put down.

By the way; parasites have no life like characteristics… they have weird hooks and scolaxes, and fyi it is not uncommon that they find 5+ footers in bars that only use “green cleaning products” (organics and going green- another joke) they most commonly travel by way of shit to mouth… maybe thats how you were conceived- but I assure you no other human life is!!

          • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1399272883 Catherine Wood

Evan, I will not get into a debate about the actions of the Catholic Church during the Nazi holocaust, except to say that tens of thousands of priests and nuns were murdered by the Nazi’s. More than 5000 priests died in Buchenwald alone. If you wish to know the truth you could easily find it.
What I will discuss is your definition of a parasite. A parasite is an organism that feeds of its host. It is an organism that is “uninvited” by the host. Generally, it will remain on the host until the host dies and it is forced to find another host. Using your false definition, an acorn would be considered a parasite to an oak tree since it “feeds” off the oak until it falls to the ground and lives on its own. Relying upon your understanding of what is parasitical, it could also be assumed that you consider the unborn child to be of no more worth than an acorn. Indeed, any child who has the audacity to live off their parents, crying for food and love, until they are able to care for themselves, as an adult, is a parasite.
Yet, to the contrary, the unborn child is an invited guest, by virtue of two persons, who according to you are capable of thought, engaging in an act which is specifically designed to create human life. If the idea of nurture and love is so foreign to you I feel nothing but sadness and pity for you, for your parasites I have great fear.

        • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1399272883 Catherine Wood

It should be illegal just as slavery is illegal. The slaveholders considered the slave to be “less than human” and therefore they could be considered “property”. Slaveholders only wanted their slaves to be counted in the national census when by doing so it increased their representation in Congress. Their argument was that they could do whatever they chose with their “property”. Much like a woman claiming that she can do what ever she wants with the “less than human” “property” in her womb.

          • Vanessa

If you don’t let women control their reproduction, if you take rights away from women (no human has the right to use the body or any part of another humans body without continued consent, to survive, no forced blood, marrow, or organ donations, at all, even post death. To take that right away from women is to hold her as less than human, to make her into a slave, to say that a fetus gets special privileges that no other human has, is to hold them ABOVE personhood.
Fetuses are not gods, in the same way that butterflies are not fairies.

      • Elise77

How about this: Making that argument is the same as making the argument that since genocide IS illegal, so should abortion be.

And you’re right. There is no comparison. The Holocaust only killed eleven million people. Legalized abortion in America alone has killed 54 million, and that’s just the babies.

And fyi, there ARE no adoptable infants languishing in foster care in America. There are WAITING LISTS for infants. Yes, there are older children, who have been abused and have all kinds of baggage that many don’t feel equipped to deal with. Wasn’t abortion supposed to prevent “unwanted” children? Wasn’t it supposed to be a panacea for child abuse? “Every child a wanted child”? Yeah, that’s working out AWESOME, isn’t it? Interesting how abortion doesn’t seem to be reducing the number of beaten, scarred children in the system. In fact, quite the opposite is happening.

Do you ever stop to wonder why abuse is more prevalent now than it was before Roe v. Wade? Do you ever consider that it might be because we’ve devalued our offspring by treating them like they were ours to do with as we chose? Or maybe because we’ve determined that we have the “right” to live life without facing the consequences of our actions?

Finally, pro-life people adopt more prolifically than pro-”choice” people, just like they give more to charity, volunteer more, etc. And no, I’m not pursuing adoption at the moment because I’m currently raising my own youngsters and the budget’s maxed out. But if by some miracle I ended up pregnant again, we’d make room for one more. And if anyone offered me the chance to adopt the child they planned to abort, I’d LEAP at the chance. It’s funny how that’s never happened. Because aborting an “unwanted pregnancy” isn’t about the child. It’s about the mother. The mother who’d rather subject her baby to the pain of death than take upon herself the suffering of giving her child to someone else to love. It’s about selfishness.

Every child IS a wanted child. SOMEONE wants that child. It’s only after that child has already been twisted by a life of abuse (that abortion, though available, failed to save him from) that people balk.

And until you stop advocating the treatment of helpless human beings as garbage to be torn apart and thrown away, your “concern” for abused children will continue to ring hollow.

        • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1399272883 Catherine Wood

The prevalence of birth control and the legality of abortion has caused mothers and father to disown their parenthood. They treat sex as entertainment to be encouraged rather than as a gift between two loving people. Parenthood, children, respect for the human body, responsibility, and self-control have become no more than an impediment to more entertainment sex.

“Anyone who has been born is an abortion survivor.” – Did that blow your mind?
Secondly, the bias on this “report” is laid on so thick that I just can’t take this seriously. I actually laughed because… Well… It is funny. It would have been different if you could back your work up with quotes from the other side rather then just make us take your word on it.
You are alive, this are bound to offend you but that doesn’t mean you should petition to remove anything you find offensive. Here’s a though, JUST IGNORE IT.
Also, creating a Facebook group to stop a Facebook doesn’t actually do anything. Example, how many different “Bring Back the Old Facebook Layout” groups have you seen? If they say that it doesn’t affect their guidelines; creating a group won’t make them rewrite them.

Is this what our society has come to? As a pro-life individual who chose adoption, it sickens me to think that there are people that think it is “okay” to kill a pre-born child. By not adhering to the 10 commandments, ” Thou shall not commit adultery… premarital sex falls under this. When humans decide not to follow commandments, this is what happens. Apathy, not believing in God, genocide, infantcide, euthenasia, all of this follows…I hope and pray that some people who are pro-choice, reconsider. Eternity is a long time to be wrong…

And the single life you have without any sort of imaginary afterlife to follow is a long time to live according to rules that were written down by someone who listened to the voices in his head thousands of years ago. This facebook page just exposes and exploits the ridiculousness of pro choice for abortion! It’s all truth. The little girl with progeria that they show is an example of how pro choice sees her, and prefers to abort babies like her. I understand how pro choice would hate this page, being that pro choice doesn’t like to expose the truth. The “abortions” page isn’t much different than the websites that expose abortion through pictures of aborted little babies, this page just does it in a different way, and in a very much similar way. What I don’t understand is how pro life would try so hard to take down this page? Exposing the ridiculousness of pro choice and the horridness of abortion, is what’s going to help people understand the reality of abortion. In the “abortions” facebook pictures it has pictures of people and it says “not aborted”. It’s even got a picture of babies, and it also says “not aborted”. So please don’t ask people to report this page. We need to expose the truth one way or another!

This debate about abortion as been going on for how long? A long time and by the looks of it it’s getting worse…when you think about it, life doesn’t start when you’re born, it starts in the womb, especially once your heart has started beating. It doesn’t matter how you look at it, you can come up with all the excueses in the world to get an abortion that might seem legit to yourself, but you’re still taking a life. I’ve been called names because I’m against abortion, well I’m really against murder and that’s what abortion really is when you use your head…think about all the things you would of missed if your mother aborted you over something, what we take for granted everyday these unborn babies are missing the little things in life..they may not have a voice, but they certainly have a right to live…let’s go for ADOPTION instead of abortion…there’s women out there who want to have a child of their own, but they can’t due to medical reasons…I’m sure it makes them sick to watch women get abortions like it’s nothing…it makes me sick too…like especially getting an abortion because the baby is a girl. REALLY? How low can you get really? I’m sorry for being harsh, but in reality, truth hurts and someone has to be the grown up, just because you’re older then 21 or 18, doesn’t make you an adult mentally, act your age! Really! Before you know it, these doctors who kill babies or whatever their professional name is, (either way you look at it, they’re still baby killers) stop playing God, that’s God’s job sheesh!

Defenders of the facebook “Abortions” page like to say that it’s purpose is to troll- incite an emotional reaction through the posting of inflamatory material. If there has ever been an example of trolling going too far, however, this page is it. I literally went cold inside when I saw people making masturbation jokes under a picture of an aborted child. The page itself, however, doesn’t shirk away from its definite pro- choice support. What I find most troubling about this is that abortion supporters usually emphatically deny that the fetus is a human life, while this page seems to have no problem with the thought of murder.

This is my one and only response to all of the rude comments.
    1. I know what satire is, but thank you for your willingness to educate me.
    2. I know what Freedom of Speech is, but I believe that the men who died for our freedoms didn’t sacrifice their lives so that we could bully children, post pictures of newborns in toilets, or promote violence against women. Freedom of Speech is meant to allow us to speak about our religious and political beliefs without being thrown in jail or killed. We have the right to own a gun, but not to shoot people at will.
    3. I do have the right to be offended by someone’s “opinion.” The entire country seems to be offended by Rush Limbaugh’s opinions on a daily basis, including political leaders.
    4. I also have the right to expose horrendous acts of bullying, violence, and injustice as I see fit and I will continue to do so.
    5. This post is definitely one-sided. My posts about abortion will always been one-sided, and they will be on the side of defending those that this country discriminates against more than anyone before – the unborn.
Thanks for commenting! But next time, please try to keep the comments mature and educated.

The importance of being Earnest is satire. That fb page is pure garbage and I feel sorry for anyone with a heart so hardened that thinks it is funny or that it isn’t a big deal .
