Louisiana officially cancels Planned Parenthood funding in light of ‘baby parts’ scandal

This week, the state of Louisiana sent a letter to Planned Parenthood, detailing reasons for the state’s termination of Medicaid funding to the abortion giant. The letter lists numerous scandals involving Planned Parenthood (including those uncovered by the Center for Medical Progress videos), citing Planned Parenthood’s illegal actions and dishonesty as reasons for the termination.

Department of Health and Hospitals Secretary Kathy Kliebert noted that findings from an initial state investigation into the abortion business have determined Planned Parenthood unfit to receive funding.

“DHH believes that PPGC misrepresented its action therein and had contradictions within the body of the letter and with the statements and admissions made in the CMP videos, including but not limited to the video released on August 4, 2015 and taped in April of this year, containing conversations with PPGC senior management, including the PPGC director of research and PPCFC facility director.”

According to Louisiana law, the state has the right to terminate a health care provider contract “immediately and without written notice if the health care provider is the subject of a sanction or a criminal, civil, or departmental proceeding. ” The state of Louisiana holds that Planned Parenthood “currently fits within this statute due to the investigations…”

Casey Mattox, Senior Counsel for Alliance Defending Freedom,  commented on Louisiana’s letter to Planned Parenthood:

Not one more penny should go to Planned Parenthood, a billion-dollar abortion dealer caught on camera negotiating the sale of hearts, lungs, and livers from aborted babies. Gov. Jindal and Louisiana have taken decisive action to treat Planned Parenthood like any other government contractor and stop tax funding for this ethically and legally challenged abortion business. Planned Parenthood has a long track record of covering up child sex trafficking, and even the Obama administration’s Department of Justice has accused it of waste, abuse, and potential fraud. Our tax dollars instead should fund local public health clinics, which exponentially outnumber Planned Parenthood locations and are not tainted by constant scandals and misdeeds. America doesn’t need Planned Parenthood.

Mattox is right: America doesn’t need Planned Parenthood. Cutting off funding for Planned Parenthood will free the state of Louisiana to send the funds to local public health clinics, many of which offer more women’s health services than any Planned Parenthood, including mammograms and holistic care.
