Report: 3 Planned Parenthood affiliates broke limit on political spending

OpenSecrets.org, a left-leaning site that tracks political spending, has found three Planned Parenthood affiliates among the organizations who exceeded the legal limit on political spending between 2008 and 2013.

The IRS requires nonprofits that register as “social welfare” organizations to operate primarily for the promotion of social welfare, which means less than half of their total spending can be for political activity. But according to the report, Planned Parenthood St. Louis spent between 65.8% and 95.7% on political donations in the time period examined, Planned Parenthood in Orange and San Bernardino, California spent 56.6% in 2009, and Planned Parenthood Pennsylvania Advocacy spent 51.2% in 2010.

Breitbart sought comment from Planned Parenthood on the revelations, but did not receive a response. Breitbart further notes that “while Open Secrets produced the research on nonprofits spending more than the IRS allows on politics, the fact that Planned Parenthood dominated their list was not mentioned in its story about the data.”

Planned Parenthood receives approximately $528.4 million in taxpayer funding annually. As Live Action News has covered, Planned Parenthood donates heavily to Democratic candidates, including President Barack Obama and 2016 party presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton. The six House Democrats Nancy Pelosi appointed last month to the select panel investigating the abortion giant received a combined $81,000 from the organization.

According to a recent poll by Robert Morris University, a majority of Americans support eliminating Planned Parenthood’s taxpayer funding when given the option of redirecting the money to community health providers uninvolved in abortion.
