Oklahoma governor signs bill to educate that abortion kills a human being

Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin signed legislation Monday mandating a statewide educational campaign aimed to educate individuals that abortion destroys a human being.

The Humanity of the Unborn Child Act, which was proposed “for the purpose of achieving an abortion-free society,” further educates young people about the obvious humanity of children in the womb.

Tony Lauinger, state chairman of Oklahomans For Life, says the law “establishes a public education program for high school students to foster increased awareness of the growth and development of a baby during the nine months before birth.

“When young people have a good understanding – in advance – of the development and humanity of the unborn child, they are much less likely to view abortion as an acceptable ‘solution’ to an unwanted pregnancy.”

The Humanity of the Unborn Child Act requires the state health department to develop materials about fetal development, as well as abortion alternatives, noting very clearly in documents “that abortion kills a living human being.”

Such materials shall be developed from the most readily available, accurate and up-to-date information and shall clearly and consistently teach that abortion kills a living human being.

The bill also mandates information to be provided for prenatal care; however, “no program or state employee may refer any student to a medical facility or any provider for the performance of an abortion.”

As Live Action discovered, young people who self-identified as pro-choice changed their minds when they were confronted with the humanity of preborn children and the inhumanity of abortion.

Authored by Rep. Ann Coody, the measure also permits an optional program for students. It is expected to take effect November 1.
