Every 26 seconds, a child is killed: can we remain in our comfort zone?

We are the generation that will break the chains of abortion – but only if we choose to.

It's time to get up out of our personal comfort zone, whatever that is.

Comfort is such a nice word. It’s so easy to live in comfort and never take a chance. Never get in there and try to make a difference. We could live our lives in the comfort zone, never standing up for what is right, never speaking out against what we believe is wrong. But how can we just live our lives like everything is okay while every day, thousands of children are murdered? It’s time for us to get out of the comfort zone and stand up against abortion! It is wrong to distance ourselves from what’s happening in abortion clinics. It is wrong to sit at home and ignore what is really going on.

Here’s a story that took place in Nazi Germany during World War Two. It’s about sitting in the comfort zone, while innocent people are killed.

We heard stories of what was happening to the Jews, but we tried to distance ourselves from it, because, what could anyone do to stop it? … A railroad track ran behind our small church and each Sunday morning we could hear the whistle in the distance and then the wheels coming over the tracks. We became disturbed when we heard the cries coming from the train as it passed by. We realized it was carrying Jews like cattle in the cars! … We knew the time the train was coming and when we heard the whistle blow we began singing hymns. By the time the train came past our church we were singing at the top of our voices. If we heard the screams, we sang more loudly and soon we heard them no more.

The people in the church were living in the comfort zone. They were trying to forget about everything that was going on in the world. Abortion is today’s version of the Holocaust. And we are the people in the church. We have a choice. We can either sit in church, singing loudly, pretending nothing’s wrong, or we can try to stop the train. I, for one, refuse to sit in church and sing while the train of abortion passes by. I will not stand by and let thousands of innocent babies be killed. But I can’t stop the train alone – no one person can. That’s why I’m challenging every person in this room to leave your comfort zone and make a difference in the lives of unborn babies and their mothers. It’s time for us to get in there and stop the engine of death.

We need to examine our lives and ask ourselves: what am I doing in the fight to end abortion? Am I sitting in the comfort zone, or am I getting out there and making a difference?

It’s great to vote for pro-life candidates, and to try not to buy stuff from places that support Planned Parenthood or other pro-abortion organizations. And although these things are very important, that’s not really leaving your comfort zone. Nobody has to know how you vote, and chances are, no one closely examines your shopping habits. So if the only thing you do now in the fight for life is vote for people who believe in the sanctity life, why not take it to the next level? Why not help those candidates publicize their views on life? You can also go to the offices of pro-abortion elected officials and share with them your views on abortion. Another thing you can do is volunteer at a crisis pregnancy center, or befriend a pregnant girl or woman. There is so much we can do, if we use the courage God gave us and make a difference.

Most of the things I have mentioned are a whole lot easier said than done. Leaving your comfort zone does take courage. But if you truly believe that abortion is wrong, that belief will compel you to take action. The very thought of the number of children killed every day will motivate you to speak out against abortion. I’m sure you’ve heard the statistics. You all know that every day in the U.S., almost four thousand babies are aborted. We hear these stats often, but when they’re broken down into smaller numbers, they seem more real. In our country, every hour, 180 babies are aborted. Every minute, 3 babies are aborted. Every 26 seconds, a child is killed. We cannot wait until tomorrow to stand up for the unborn. Every day we put off taking action is costing thousands of children their lives.

As Edmund Burke said, “All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.” I will not sit and do nothing while the tragedy of abortion continues. I am willing to leave my comfort zone in order to save lives. And I challenge you to make the same commitment. Don’t sit and watch while abortionists take the lives of children. Take a risk, ignore what people think of you, and speak up for the unborn.

The train of abortion is still moving, but it’s slowing down – it’s running out of fuel. This is happening because of all the people who left their comfort zones, who didn’t just sit in the church and sing while the train of abortion passed by. We can stop that train; we can save the lives of children if we have the courage to stand up for what’s right and make a difference.

One of my favorite songs is “Courageous” by Casting Crowns. Here is the first line of the song: “We were made to be courageous. We were made to lead the way. We could be the generation that finally breaks the chains.” God has given us the courage to leave the comfort zone, but it’s up to us to use that courage to save lives. It’s not just a song. We are made to be courageous. We are made to lead the way. We are the generation that will break the chains of abortion.
