Potential Clinton VP pick Tim Kaine: I’m ‘very strongly’ for abortion

On Friday, Virginia Democrat Senator Tim Kaine further distanced himself from his “personally opposed to abortion” rhetoric, potentially in a bid to make himself more palatable as presumptive Democrat presidential nominee Hillary Clinton’s running mate.

In recent weeks, Kaine’s name has emerged as one of the leading contenders for the Democrat ticket, though some Democrats have suggested he is too moderate on abortion, having in the past identified himself as a “pro-life Democrat.”

However, Kaine attempted to put such notions to rest on CNN, where he declared, “I have a traditional Catholic personal position, but I am very strongly supportive that women should make these decisions and government shouldn’t intrude.”

“I’m a strong supporter of Roe v. Wade and women being able to make these decisions. In government, we have enough things to worry about,” Kaine continued. “We don’t need to make people’s reproductive decisions for them.”

Selecting a “pro-life Democrat” for vice president would, indeed, be a stark contrast to both Clinton’s own 100 percent pro-abortion position and the latest Democrat platform, which goes further than past platforms in calling for taxpayer funding of abortion.

However, as Live Action News has previously covered, while Kaine may have been considered to have a “mixed-choice” record on abortion as Virginia’s governor, in the Senate he held a 100 percent pro-abortion voting record with both NARAL and Planned Parenthood.
