Powerful pro-life story goes viral

Shared over 2,000 times, a short tale about a doctor and a pregnant woman is packing serious punch. Posted on the One Sonogram Facebook page, it explores a unique conversation about life and abortion. We have posted it below and would love to hear your thoughts on it in the comment section:

A worried woman went to her gynecologist and said:

“Doctor, I have a serious problem and desperately need your help! My baby is not even one year old, and I’m pregnant again. I don’t want kids so close together.”

So the doctor said: “Okay, and what do you want me to do?”

She said: “I want you to end my pregnancy, and I’m counting on your help with this.”

The doctor thought for a little, and after some silence, he said to the lady: “I think I have a better solution for your problem. It’s less dangerous for you, too.”

She smiled, thinking that the doctor was going to accept her request.

Then he continued: “You see, in order for you not to have to take care of two babies at the same time, let’s kill the one in your arms. This way, you could rest some before the other one is born. If we’re going to kill one of them, it doesn’t matter which one it is. There would be no risk for your body if you chose the one in your arms.”

The lady was horrified and said: “No, doctor! How terrible! It’s a crime to kill a child!”

“I agree,” the doctor replied. “But you seemed to be okay with it, so I thought maybe that was the best solution.”

The doctor smiled, realizing that he had made his point.

He convinced the mom that there is no difference between killing a child that’s already been born and killing one that’s still in the womb. The crime is the same!

Love this story. It hits the nail right on the head. Killing is killing. Period. Wish there were more doctors like that!

    I love the picture :)

What a sick, sick story. Not only is it not true, killing a child that has been born in murder! A fetus is not a live human being. The day a 2 week old fetus can survive outside the womb is the day abortion should become illegal. Pro choice for LIFE!

The medical and scientific definiton of life: reproducing cells, metabolizing nutrients, growth, response to stimuli, and/or adaptation to enivronment.

The medical and scientific definition of a human being: one who is a member of the species homo sapiens.

By both of those definitons, a fetus is a living human being.

Also, an unborn child two weeks old is called an embryo, not a fetus. She or he doesn’t become a fetus until the end of the seventh week. Women don’t usually even find out that they’re pregnant until the sixth or seventh week, and no abortion clinic will do an abortion before then, due to the size of the child being too small to see.

Moon, I’m not trying to be contrary with what I’m about to tell you but: a friend of mine was 21 days along in her pregnancy when she aborted. I know they did a vacuum suction abortion, and I’m assuming when they did it at such an early stage in pregnancy, that they just essentially suctioned her entire uterus. Despite it being so early and so small, there would be no way for the baby to survive. What I’m getting at here, is the amount of development of the baby makes no bearing on whether an abortion can be performed. I’m unsure if the rules surrounding gestational age have changed, as this abortion occurred in 1995. But either way, just simply suctioning out her uterus would either not provide the newly fertilized ovum an implantation site, or would suction out the newly developing baby while still in his/her zygote or embryonic stage. Perhaps it’s a state-by-state ruling as to when abortions can be performed? I only know what I have witnessed.

That’s not to say that I condone the practice of abortion at any gestational age or at any level of fetal development though. Regardless to all the refusal to recognize the humanity of the unborn at any stage of development, they are still human beings with all the human rights afforded to every human. To say anything otherwise would be to ascribe to the theory from Orwell’s “Animal Farm”….”Some animals are more equal than others”. Sorry, no human is more equal than another.

So, because a 2 week old human-in-utero cannot survive outside the womb, abortions should be legal? What about the 8 month old human-in-utero? Capable of surviving outside the womb, thumb-sucking, yawning, playing with his toes kind of human? Since when does the ability to survive without assistance, or physical abilities, or appearance, make someone a ‘live human being’? Since never!

    • Doug

A two week old baby cannot survive on its own. Without care and nurturing from another human being, it would quickly starve to death, die from exposure to the elements, be killed by an animal, etc. So what difference does it make if the infant requires care and nurturing *inside* the womb or *outside* the womb? A fetus is very much alive, it just can’t survive on its own – exactly like a newborn cannot survive on its own.

This is good stuff, and I love what One Sonogram is setting out to do. Thanks for posting about it!

This is a very powerful story.  Unfortunately, that mother is far from alone in her misguided perception of the unborn life.  I really appreciate organizations like One Sonogram and Life action that seek to bring the truth to the surface and defend the rights of the unborn.

What a great point! There is no logical way to make a distinction between a child in the womb and a child outside of it.

    • Gggg

There’s actually a really simple way to make the distinction. One is inside, the other is outside. Et voila!

    Great post!

    great article.

I really appreciate the way in which this article, and other endeavors, avoids reducing sanctity of life issues to political attacks. Keep fighting the good fight in this manner!

What a powerful way to depict the decision to abort.  Thanks for posting this, One Sonogram looks legit!

Thanks for highlighting the great work One Sonogram is doing!

A very thought-provoking story. I’m glad that this doesn’t sink to personal attacks, but keeps the focus where it ought to be: Human life.

  • Zbentley16

Great article! I really appreciate what Live Action and OneSonogram are out there doing and give them my full support!

  • Hans2flow

Love it!!!!! Makes as much sense as having an abortion.

  • Troy Beaudry

This is a powerful way to think about the issue of abortion.

  • Dave Logan

I couldn’t agree with you more, Nate.  The focus shouldn’t be on Women’s Rights, but on something the woman has the responsibility and calling to protect: the life of her child.  I am also stunned at how respectful this story is compared to many of the comments on its Facebook Page.

I love the work these fellows are doing. I pray God would continue to bless their efforts.

  • Crelinb

This story does a great job of bringing home the fact that a life is a life – born or still in the womb. Thank you One Sonogram!

Only thing is, usually the mother is trying to convince the doctor and others of this truth
