Report: Chemical abortions on track to exceed surgical abortions

A new report by Reuters released this week has found that nearly half of the abortions performed at Planned Parenthood are now medication abortions rather than surgical procedures.

In 2010, abortion-inducing drugs comprised 35% of PP’s abortions, with that number rising to 43% as of 2014. The trend will likely continue thanks to the FDA’s decision this March to relax its protocols for the use of the abortion drug Mifeprex, despite concerns about the drug’s medical risks, including blood, psychiatric, immune, respiratory, cardiac, reproductive, and more disorders, as well as a handful of deaths. Former abortionist Dr. Anthony Levatino explains at AbortionProcedures.com the process of a first trimester medical (abortion pill) abortion:

In a few states with particularly light regulations, such as Michigan and Iowa, medical abortions have already overtaken surgical abortions. Tammi Kromenaker, director of Red River Women’s Clinic in Fargo, North Dakota (the only abortion facility in the state), attributes the popularity of chemical abortions to enabling women to abort their babies “in a manner more like a miscarriage” (Reuters’ phrasing).

In March, Live Action News noted that by the time the FDA relaxed its guidelines, Planned Parenthood had already been defying the safety standards for years. Further, the true number of chemical abortions is even higher, as many of the pills abortionists advertise as preventing rather than ending pregnancy in fact function as abortifacients.
