Ten notable pro-life celebrities you should know

While there is no shortage of pro-abortion celebrities, there are some celebrities in the entertainment industry who are unafraid to stand for the sanctity of life. Here is a list of 10 celebrities you may be surprised to know are outspoken pro-life advocates.

Tim Tebow

Not many football players have generated such controversy over their personal beliefs, and for such surprising reasons. A Heisman Trophy winner, Tebow graduated from the University of Florida and played in the NFL for the New York Jets. His religious devotion – from writing Bible verses on his cheeks during games to the Tebowing craze of praying on the field – has been both widely praised and scorned.

tim-tebow-trade

He is also a notable pro-lifer, appearing in a pro-life ad with his mother during Super Bowl XLIV that drew widespread criticism from pro-abortion advocates. The ads told the story of how Tebow’s mother was told to have an abortion, but instead chose life for her son. Despite his fame and success, Tebow has remained true to his faith and pro-life principles.

Jack Nicholson

Not many people in Hollywood have had a career as celebrated and prolific as Jack Nicholson’s. As a writer, director, producer, and actor, he has received the most Oscar nominations of any male actor.

As a pregnant teenager, Nicholson’s mother was pressured to have an abortion, but she refused. This shaped Nicholson’s view on abortion, making him one of the few pro-life celebrities. On the subject, he has said, “I don’t have the right to any other view. My only emotion is gratitude, literally, for my life.”

James Caviezel

Famous for playing the role of Jesus Christ in Mel Gibson’s The Passion of the Christ, James Caviezel has starred in several feature films and television shows.

Caviezel is a devout Roman Catholic and an outspoken advocate for pro-life issues, speaking out against abortion and embryonic stem cell research. He’s called abortion the ultimate evil, saying, “Abortion goes much further: when the mother herself kills her son she goes against her own nature, against her own instinct. People talk about ‘choice’, but when a woman does that, when she destroys the life of her unborn child, then, we have arrived at the limit. The level cannot go higher regarding evil.”

Kathy Ireland

headshot-kathy-homeKathy’s fame began when she was working as a model, appearing on the covers of major magazines such as Vogue, Cosmopolitan, and the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. She also appeared as an actress in multiple television shows and movies. She also started her own company, Kathy Ireland WorldWide, which has grown into a multi-billion-dollar empire.

She’s also a notable outspoken pro-lifer. She’s advocated for the defunding of Planned Parenthood, and she appeared at a Council For Life luncheon, where she delivered the keynote speech.

Ben Stein

“Bueller? Bueller?”

If you can remember this scene, then you know who Ben Stein is. While he has appeared in movies, television shows, and even as a game-show host (for which he won an Emmy), it is his role in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off that made him instantly recognizable. Stein has had an impressive career outside Hollywood, working as a speechwriter for Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford and teaching law at multiple universities around the country. He also writes frequently about politics and economics.

He’s also an outspoken pro-lifer. He was even honored at the Tenth Annual Proudly Pro-Life Awards Dinner in 2003.

Patricia Heaton

Patricia Heaton is best-known for her role as Debra Barone on the hit comedy Everybody Loves Raymond, for which she won two Emmy awards.

Heaton is notable for being one of the rare Republicans in Hollywood, and she is an outspoken advocate for pro-life issues. She has spoken out against abortion, the death penalty, embryonic stem cell research, and euthanasia. She was one of the few celebrities who spoke out in the Terri Schiavo case, and she was named an honorary chair of Feminists for Life of America.

Kenny Chesney

kenny_chesney

One of country’s biggest superstars, Kenny Chesney has won multiple awards, including Entertainer of the Year and Male Vocalist of the Year. He’s also collaborated with other country stars such as Tim McGraw, Rascal Flatts, and Reba McEntire.

Chesney’s most notable example of pro-life advocacy is in the song he has called one of his favorites, “There Goes My Life.” It spent seven weeks at number one, and it tells the story of a teenager whose girlfriend gets pregnant and has the baby rather than having an abortion. The teen initially believes that his life has been ruined, but in the end, he realizes how much of a blessing the child is.

Jonathan Taylor Thomas

Jonathan Taylor Thomas was one of the ’90s’ most adored tween heartthrobs, starring in the Tim Allen smash Home Improvement. That fame also scored him roles on the big screen, in movies such as The Lion King and Wild America. Thomas took a break from acting to attend Harvard University. He also studied for one year at St. Andrew’s University in Scotland. He’s slowly been making his way back into showbiz, though, starring in indie films and making guest star appearances on numerous television shows.

He’s also a noted pro-lifer, even providing the voice for a baby in a pro-life television ad. The campaign gave alternatives to abortion, such as adoption and charities.

Janine Turner

imagesIn the late 1970s, Janine Turner started her career as a model before quickly moving on to become an actress on multiple television shows in the 1980s and 1990s. She also appeared in many movies, including Cliffhanger.

Turner is an outspoken Republican and a strong pro-life advocate. She has decried the lack of federal funding for pro-life organizations while Planned Parenthood receives taxpayer dollars, and she has urged conservatives not to declare a truce on social issues.

Martin Sheen

Martin Sheen is a notable actor of both television and films, starring in movies such as Apocalypse Now and The Departed and television shows such as The West Wing, where he played the president of the United States.

Sheen is an outspoken political activist and a notable liberal Democrat on most issues. He is also a Roman Catholic and a pro-lifer, even being named a “Remarkable Pro-Life Man” by Feminists for Life. He has also spoken out about his wife, who was conceived through rape. Her mother considered aborting her and, after the birth, dumping her in the Ohio River, but in both instances, she chose to give her daughter life instead.

  • Prolifemom

I think you can also add Jennifer O’Neill, actress, model and author to that list.

  • Basset_Hound

I think I read that Richard Karn (also of Home Improvement) had donated money to a Crisis Pregnancy Center.

  • Kate Mulgrew is also pro-life. Which had a particular impact on me when I learned it since Captain Janeway is the character that started me becoming a feminist.

  • Linus

Martin Sheen is pro-abortion, even as a fictional character. Don`t be fooled by these fakes. That lousy TV series where he did a ficitonal pro-abortion “Catholic” President was as much pro-abortion as you can get.

  • Although it’s impressive to hear Jack Nicholson is pro-life I can’t help but wonder how he resolves within himself supporting and endorsing vehemently pro-choice politicians like Barack Obama. A vote for Obama is a vote for choice. It’s a dichotomy that’s hard to understand.

    • Anna Rossi

Not always. You cannot find a candidate that agrees with all the same things you do. And although I think that abortion (since it is a life/death issue) is one of the most important things to consider when voting, some people don’t think that it’s not where the focus should be.

      • CarlosHelms

It is something of a “bottom-line,” no?

        • leroy brown

if any one voted for Obama they voted for a President that as a Jr. senator in Chicago, Obama fought for His personal Abortion Bill that says its OK to walk away from a fully formed Baby and let it die if the Baby survive’s a “Botched Abortion” that’s called “INFANTICIDE”!Obama is simply EVIL!

        • leroy brown

      • Guest

A vote for Obama – someone that thinks even third-trimester abortions are okay and that babies are a punishment – is certainly a vote for choice (abortion).

        • Yet, we are constantly told, on the conservative side, that we must vote for whatever tepid candidate the Repubs offer. I say, get off the crazy train and vote for the RIGHT candidate, regardless of party label. If we all did that, the landscape of American politics would cease being strictly black and grey, and would take on living vibrant color!

      • Dh: )

It’s not “One of” the most important issues. It is THE most important issue.Deny life and none of the other issues matter.

        • Timmehh

I would not vote for a pro life candidate if I thought he was going to run the country into the ground.

          • I wouldn’t either, but I wouldn’t vote for their pro-abortion opposite number, either.

        • rich

Dh: ) You stated the issue is Denying life, if so why is not guns an issue since guns deny life when used by the wrong person.

      • LILLIAN PORTER

If you destroy life, you don’t need social programs for the poor – which is the direction America has been going ever since the slaves were set free. If you destroy young life, then you are eventually going to have to euthanize your grandparents and parents. If you destroy life, then you cause worldwide economic collapse. (See, on You Tube, ‘The Demographic Winter’, which features several Ivy League economists, including a Nobel Prize winner). When you kill one child, you eliminate all its progeny. That is how extinction works.

In order to replace Mommy and Daddy there have to be two children born to them. To increase population, you need to have more. Overpopulation is a lie. When the Boomers are all gone, in twenty years, there is going to be a precipitous drop in population. In Eastern Europe and the Far East now, there are hardly any children under five. Singapore has a replacement population rate of 0.9%. Russia, Iran and Spain are paying citizens to have babies but they have fallen behind the curve. Spain’s future population will be descendants of immigrants. There are many areas in the U.S. that are under zero-population growth. New York snuffs 40% of its future citizens.

“Reproductive Health” is about racism and, in countries like China, State terrorism. It is about using fetal tissue in vaccines, face creams and enhancing flavors in food. (No kidding – check out the company called Senomyx that had contracts with Pepsico and Campbell’s Soups. Boycotts made those companies withdraw but others, like Quaker and Cadbury, are still hooked up). Abortion clinics have traditionally been placed in African American and immigrant neighborhoods. The founder of Planned Parenthood described African Americans and immigrants as “vermin”. Hitler admired her work and used some of her ideas. She proposed segregating the sexes. I wonder if that is why our prisons and jails are filled with people of color. Africa only has 85 people per square mile (the UK has 1,010), yet the UN, the WHO, abortion clinics, pharmaceutical corporations, and first world governments, are feverishly trying to depopulate that continent. They require poor countries to agree to birth control programs if they want to get foreign aid.

Some people don’t think that abortion should be a focus when it comes to voting because the truth has been withheld from them, for decades. It became necessary for pro-lifers to do their own investigating and reporting because the media that you trust, will not. I think, you can figure out why.

        • Basset_Hound

And when these countries are faced with older, sicker populations and crushing debts from entitlement spending, euthanasia will make abortion look like child’s play.

        • Phillip Woon

It’s amazing that people who are pro-life wouldn’t think twice about waging war, killing black men, and the death penalty.

        • rich

Lilian Porter, if abortion were about the issue you are speaking of I would probably support outlawing abortion. Since abortion is being pushed by religious fanatics saying since there belief says abortion is wrong then I have a problem. If your religion does not believe abortion or contraceptives are wrong do not get an abortion or use contraceptives. Do not push your religious beliefs on other people. Christian businesses say because they do not believe in some contraceptives they should have a right not to offer it on their insurance coverage. They are denying people their GOD given right to have an abortion, GOD will judge the person themselves for having an abortion, not the person who offers it on their insurance coverage. When do religious beliefs stop interfering with the rights of others to to their GOD given right to do what they want to do. If Christians are allowed their GOD given rights to do how they live so does everybody else.

    • Ray Montes

It’s hard to understand why more people don’t vote their beliefs. If those voters who claim to be Christian actually believed in there faith people the likes of Barack Obama and self proclaimed Catholics like Nancy Pelosi and Joe Biden would never been elected to any public office.

      • leroy brown

it is a shame but the Liberal Catholic has infested the Church Much like liberals have infested the Public schools, politics, and everything that is good has been soiled by liberlism, some folks have no beliefs so therefore their belief is dictated to them, and thats how they vote “As they are told”(liberals),The Catholics who voted for Obama are either Catholics who really don’t live their faith,or were never Catholic to begin with, and invented their own doctrine contrary to what the Bible says,”thou Shall not Kill” matters not to them…It’s so odd to me how a liberal who is upset about “SandyHook” as to what happened to these beuitiful children, but yet vote for the Democratic party who has the blood of 55 million murdered Babies through abortion in the last 40 yrs on their “Hands”…

        • rich

leroy brown, conservative are just as much a hypocrite
as liberals. What do conservatives not understand about “THOU SHALT NOT KILL”. Conservatives are against abortion but are
for guns while the Liberals are for abortion rights and against guns. If you are going to take away the means as you say kill someone through abortion, then you have to take away the means of someone to kill with a gun. If Christian want to out law abortion ‘because abortion do not kill infants, people kill infants then they have to outlaw guns because ‘guns do not kill people, people kill people. If Americans have a right the access to a gun, then women have the right to have access to abortion.

    • Dave

Martin Sheen is another example of a so-called “pro-life” person who consistently votes for pro-abortion candidates.

    • Conservative Oldster

Totally agree…I guess in his own case he believes in pro-life, however, anyone who endorses Obama cannot be trusted, anyway…

    • rich

Jeannieology, that is the problem with Conservatives and Religious extremist. They have forgotten that life is a choice God gave to all to make what ever choices we want. If you can not make the choices you want like having an abortions, killing, raping, etc then Christ taking the sins upon the world is useless. Christ took upon him all the sins of the world so we could sin and repent and be responsible for ourselves, not for someone to force us to do what is right. He died on the cross to show the world that there is life after death so we have a reason to follow Gods plan. So if abortion is outlawed the way Christian business owners have refused to pay for contraceptives on insurance plans then they are refusing Gods children the right to partake in the right to chose what they want to do as Gods plan give them through Jesus Christ. That is why I Christian who take away peoples choices to live a life God has granted to us. Each individual will be responsible for their own actions on this earth. If Conservatives and Christian believed in GOD they would not get rid of abortion or deny others any type of contraceptives.

  • Ann

Didn’t know that bout Ashley Judd,I’ve pretty much have lost all respect for her:-( no wonder why her and her husband r divorcing,w a personality like that.

  • CarlosHelms

Thank you, ma’am! I appreciate knowing that Hollywood is not completely lost. Some surprises there!

  • MCH

“Heaton is notable for being one of the rare Republicans in Hollywood,
and she is an outspoken advocate for pro-life issues. She has spoken out
against abortion, the death penalty, embryonic stem cell research, and
    euthanasia.”

Big deal she’s against the death penalty. So is just about everyone else in Hollywood. I’d be more impressed by a celebrity who realizes that the life of a murderer isn’t worth more than the life of their victim.

    • Only God can decide whose life has value and whose doesn’t.

      • MCH

        Leviticus 24:17 (NIV)
Anyone who takes the life of a human being is to be put to death.

        Romans 13:4 (ESV)
for he is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid,
for he does not bear the sword in vain. For he is the servant of God, an
avenger who carries out God’s wrath on the wrongdoer.

Remind me, what were swords used for again? Any time you allow a murderer to live, you put INNOCENT people in danger.

      • God says in His Word that ALL life has value.

The Value of Human Life in the New Testament
Human life is more valuable than animal life. Matthew 6:26; Matthew 10:29-31

God’s work invests human life with value. 1 Corinthians 3:16-17; John 3:16

        Jesus cared for people who had a poor “quality of life” rating. Matthew 4:23-25; 8:1-3;
        9:1-8

Jesus valued little children. Matthew 18:1-14

We should have a Biblical attitude toward poor children. James 1:27; 2:5-9

The first charge given to men and women was to be fruitful and multiply. Genesis 1:27-28

        Children are a blessing. Psalms 113:7-9; 127:3; Deuteronomy 7:12-14

        “Spiritual adoption” is a model for physical adoption. Ephesians 1:5; Romans 8:15;9:4-8;
        Galatians 4:4-5Jesus loved children. Matthew 18:1-14; 19:13-15

I could go on and on. God also says that He would that NONE would perish; 2 Peter 3:9. That sounds like He values ALL people, praise His Name!! :-D

      • Phillip Woon

How can god decide when he’s fictional?

  • Just like politicians, I don’t believe a word an actor says . Never sure if they are being true or just acting or if they will change their stance depending on what the status quo is saying about it.

    • wineinthewater

Few people tells lies that are to their detriment. Few actors are willing to step outside Hollywood orthodoxy. Being pro-life in Hollywood is something that comes with a cost. That status quo is not very hospitable to pro-lifers. I think that Hollywood is one of the places that, if someone says they are pro-life, you can probably believe it.

Also, perpetuating the crotchety, judgmental pro-lifer stereo-type doesn’t do the cause any good.

  • flyovercindy

God Bless them and lead them to continue their support of principled lives. Thank you.

  • Unfortunately there are Catholics who don’t bother to listen to the bishops before they go into the voting booth. I’ve spoken to some who do their best to ignore the stinky pile that is abortion when they consider the political arena. Sadly there are also some who say abortion doesn’t bother them at all. Benedict said that people who don’t vote pro-life should not be ostracized or denied the sacraments but should be engaged in dialog. It will be interesting to see what Francis I says.

    • JLA

MOST importantly, above what man thinks and says, what does God say?!? TOO many religious listening to man and ignoring the word of God!

  • Anne Caston

Judd is a typical liberal hollywood scumbag! I will never watch another movie she is in and to come to think of it she hasn’t been in any of late either. She just got divorced so she isn’t the top of the line people anyway.

    • I don’t particularly like Ashley Judd, but I think calling her a scumbag and claiming that the fact that she’s divorced makes her an immoral person is a little over-the-top.

  • Austin Jones

More unborn babies have been murdered in the United States than the Nazis killed people.

  • Mike L
  • My gf is threatening abortion because our child is trisonomy 21…please contact me on facebook because I am going through the worst time in my life, and I feel like dying. I can’t believe she is so cold hearted or afraid that she is considering this, she does not care one bit about anything I am saying, I have even shared this article with her, and all she did was attack it…I so believe in what you have said and how 90% of our population or so is very hateful towards the other 10%…it is like we are living in the 4th reich…however I believe there are many good people, and that 1 person in the Lord is able to put to flight 10,000 unbelievers…I just need someone (a friend) to talk with about these things, I am a computer expert that does not get out as much as I should perhaps, and so this is my main method to get in touch with others. Blessings for all that you do and say, your article is good and shows me there are people who really do care deeply in this world.

    • Why are you having a child with a gf in the first place? A godly man MARRIES the woman he loves. As a husband, you would likely have a much greater impact on her decisions.

      • Kate

I think it’s a little late to be demanding they be married before having a child. 1. We all make mistakes and are subject to the consequences. (All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God). It’s good that it seems he’s actually trying to take responsibility for his actions. 2. Even if they were married, if she’s not a Godly wife, I doubt him being her husband will have any impact on her decisions. Aside from that, I love how you provided encouragement for him since he said he’s going through the worst time in his life and feels like he’s dying. Oh wait, you didn’t…

      • Linore, while I can appreciate your comment, we need to be careful that we temper what we say with Love.

        • Kate

Thank you, I agree. I thought about that after I wrote the comment. See, sinners in action. Sometimes the sarcasm slips. Something I need to pray on. Thanks again!

        • Kate

Sorry, the guest was me. Thought you were talking to me, but it looks like it applies anyway. :)

    • Kate

Hey, have you looked up any pro-life/abolitionist resources regarding Down syndrome and abortion? There’s a lot of stuff out there on the web. Instead of showing her that there’s pro-life celebrities out there, what about testimonies from people with Down syndrome who are grateful to be alive today? Or the happiness and accomplishments of kids with Down syndrome? No, they may not be “just like us”, but that doesn’t mean they don’t have happy and fulfilling lives. You also might consider showing some legitimate resources on the emotional, psychological, and possible physical effects of abortion. It’s harmful to the child and many times harmful to the mother as well. Testimonies from post abortive women can be helpful. Adoption is a good option if you don’t think you can care for a Down syndrome child. There are many people out there who are gifted with caring for special needs kids. Don’t fight and argue with your girlfriend or make threats and give ultimatums, but try and have calm discussions with her and tell her how you feel. Let her know that if she keeps the baby, you’ll be there to support her and even if she gets the abortion you’ll still love her, but you don’t agree with the killing of a human being and don’t want to be part of an abortion. Don’t know if you’re familiar, but Abolish Human Abortion has some great resources and a big community of people that you an talk to and that’ll pray for you and your girlfriend

      • Basset_Hound

Another suggestion would be to contact a Down’s Syndrome parents’ support group.

        • Kate

That’s a great idea. Didn’t think of that one right off the bat. Do you know of any links or orgs so people can get in touch, or is that like something you would have to get through your PCP?

      • Nice Kate! Your Jesus is showing! ;)

    • Kate
    • My daughter has Trisomy 21 (down syndrome). I love her more than words can say. She has been nothing short of a blessing for our family. Tell your girlfriend that she can talk to me. I will gladly explain to her why she should keep that precious baby. Nobody deserves to die just because they are “different”. Does she think that we should euthanize everyone who is born with Down Syndrome? What about CP, or people who have been injured in an accident? What about wounded soldiers? Does everyone who is “slow” or physically impaired deserve to be murdered? Ask her to pray with you. Tell her that there are support groups for parents of children with DS. She can talk to me. I have LOTS of friends who would be willing to talk to her, too.

      • Pastor Jeff

Thanks for being an inspiration to others who may face situations like this. In my experience these children are not normal. They are extraordinary. They have an incredible capacity to love unconditionally and are some of the sweetest peopl you will meet. My life has been greatly enriched by past experiences with these very special children. They have as much t o offer as so called normal people…if not more.

    • Kelly G.

This is a organization that a friend of mine started for Children and families with Trisomy babies!

      http://www.prenatalpartnersforlife.org/

  • Alyson Spiegel

No one in politics stand up for the unborn, noone. You either think it is wrong or you think it is right. no in betweens. I listened to what these so called Christians said during the election and it just made me sad. Be a man and stand up for something. Any one who voted for obama did vote for gays and murdering babies. It is a fact you did. Christians have got to stand up and defend the innocent. Churches have got to get back to preaching more about what God really expects and stop dancing around the big issues. I will continue praying.

  • Angel Wings

Correction to Martin Sheen. He may claim to be pro life, but, he is a supporter for Obama. I find that hard to swallow.

  • SickemBoy

    Very KOOL KATS!

  • SickemBoy

It is sickening to see the hypocrisy of those that say one thing and do another, especially where it concerns having the public spotlight and greatly misleading others. As Christians, we must NEVER forget that we are fighting the diabolical…jackie is clearly extremely confused, for-biden is an old coot(did you see him debate w/Ryan the Magnificent? It was painful to see poor pappy’s sorry self)NOMINAL “catholic” along w/peLOSER(no worries—both of these will NEVER escape the wrath of God). We MUST have pity on them and PRAY for them(seriously, i know it’s hard to do, but this is what we have been called to do. Prayer is POWERFUL against the demonic. Just do it. Ever since I started, these have had somewhat of an excruciating look of defeat on their faces perhaps because they think they may have “won” something, but the Truth of the matter is they know they have sealed their hellish fate.

  • vistor

anyone that labels themselves as ‘liberal Catholic’ is NOT Catholic… PERIOD! True Catholics DO NOT believe in abortion. I pray that anyone performing abortions, having abortions or believes in abortions has a change of heart. Please God, change their hearts!

  • My Name

I don’t know why we are praising people who model for obscene magazines (Cosmopolitan, Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue) just because they’re pro-life. If you’re publishing photos of yourself which can ensnare others in lust and adultery then why do we care what you believe in the case of abortion? You’re encouraging people to sin sexually. Sounds a bit contradictory to your standings.

    • “Obscene” is a legal term with a strict definition; “sinning sexually” is a religious concept. Whether Cosmopolitan and swimsuit issues cause people to sin sexually is up for debate, but they’re not obscene.

  • Al

Thanks, guys, for that list. I don’t know about anyone else here, but I would like to see a similar list of pro-life celebrities who aren’t from North America? British, Australian, etc. It’d be great if you guys could put that one together!

What is the source for Jonathan Taylor Thomas’ pro-life ad? I’ve looked around, and I can’t find it anywhere. I’d love to see the video if possible.

  • Frankly, Scarlett, why should we give a damn? Not one for turning to a Hollywood celebrity for their opinion on much of anything outside of the film they’re making. And even then, caveat emptor. “Making it” in the movie industry demands a pound of flesh and a tenth of one’s soul.

This news makes me feel good … Good for them. :-)

  • Obongo. He’s an idiot.

God would rather their be just ONE PRACTICING CATHOLIC STANDING UP FOR LIFE, than a million etc. that don’t practice or who are outside of the Catholic Faith, because they have the option to change their minds according to their FEELINGS, which can change from day to day, instead of obeying the Authority of the Catholic Church. They are left to their own discretion which is changeable and dangerous to the soul. It isn’t about Respecting Human Life first, it’s about Respecting God’s rights FIRST, then God’s Will, will be done and not ours as we see fit.
