The campaign to defund Planned Parenthood: Sign the petition

There are plenty of reasons to defund Planned Parenthood, but the abortion giant has quite a big connection in a little town called D.C. This week, Live Action takes matters into its own hands to get our taxpayer dollars back from the largest abortion provider in the country. But they can’t do it alone. This project is all hands on deck, and it starts with a petition.

Why You Should Sign

Planned Parenthood is a wolf that has done an insanely good job of hiding in sheep’s clothing. And they prove it on a fairly consistent basis.

In the last five years, Planned Parenthood has been caught:

In those same five years, Planned Parenthood received $2 billion in taxpayer money. Think of what $2 billion could have done for sick children or families who are struggling to pay their bills – not to mention the women who chose life for their children despite the financial concerns they face, including paying for college and affording a home.

Meanwhile, in just one year, Planned Parenthood brings in $154 million from abortions alone (48% of their “non-government Health Services revenue”). The non-profit’s overall annual excess revenue over expenses in 2010 totaled $18.5 million. That’s after paying many of their CEOs and executives more than $250,000 each, the magic number for being considered a member of the top 1% of income-earners in the country. Cecile Richards, the president of Planned Parenthood, makes $400,000 annually. Plus, the non-profit spends $56 million on lobbying in a single year.

They don’t deserve or need your tax money. Sign the petition.

What Else You Can Do

After you sign the petition, there’s more you can do to help Live Action’s mission to defund Planned Parenthood.

  • Share the petition. This is so easy. Just e-mail the link to your friends and family, post the link on Facebook, tweet the link on Twitter. Some people might not sign it. But some of them will.
  • Get involved locally. Your regional or statewide Right to Life Group needs your support. Team up with them to work with local government and the pro-life community to defund Planned Parenthood on the state level. It’s up close. It’s personal. And in the end, it will be the statewide victories that lead to the end of abortion across America.

Now is your chance. Now is the time. No matter whom you voted for. No matter who our president is. Planned Parenthood can be defunded, and you can help make it happen.

Your crusade against women’s health care will undoubtedly lead to a greater risk of cancer in females with no access to PP’s screenings, as well as women dying in the back-alley abortions that Roe v. Wade was intended to prevent.

    • http://www.facebook.com/thomas.corris Thomas Corris

Planned Parenthood does not provide any breast cancer screening themselves. They only refer women to organizations that do.
As far as deaths go, that is their business when all goes well. Tens of millions of women are not alive today because of Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood.

      • Steve Farrell

Once again, it’s probably more accurate to say that countless women —living, breathing humans who exist outside mommy’s tummy— are still alive because of PP’s health care and women’s access to safe legal abortion. The women you mentioned who “are not alive today” were never born in the first place.

        • http://www.facebook.com/beverly.harlton Beverly Harlton

Steve, does it not occur to you that if Planned Parenthood is defunded, a legitimate organisation that actually cares about women’s health would be instated instead? Texas is pushing to defund PP, but they are also making plans to build state-sponsered clinics that do everything for women EXCEPT abortions.

          • ProTruth2

but they are also making plans to build state-sponsered clinics that do everything for women EXCEPT abortions

No, they aren’t. They’re trying to talk enough doctors into participating in the WHP program so that they can cover Planned Parenthood’s current clients, but they have not yet been able to verify that they have enough providers, or even been able to produce an accurate list of those providers.

        • http://www.facebook.com/thomas.corris Thomas Corris

Fascinating, you need to qualify what females are saved in order to prove that more women are alive today because of abortion. Only the qualification only hides the reality. More than 54 million babies have been aborted since Roe v Wade. If we assume for arguments sake that abortions are evenly split between the sexes, 27 million women are not alive today because of Roe v Wade. Keep in mind, this figure does not consider the children that the aborted would have had had they not been aborted.

Now, how many women have been saved by abortion?

    • LoveTheLeast8

How is this s crusade against women’s health? If Planned Parenthood is defunded, their funding goes to other, better health care organizations that don’t support sex-selection abortions and repeatedly fail to report child sexual abuse when required to by state law.

      • Steve Farrell

How is it you’re so sure where this funding is going? I’d say the pro-lifers have used the abortions that only constitute 3% of Planned Parenthood’s activity to demonize the organization. It’s too bad that religiosity and moral posturing mean more to people in the 21st century than women’s health and lives.

        • LoveTheLeast8

Look at the 3,000+ FQHC health clinics in the U.S. that offer way more comprehensive care than Planned Parenthood. They for the most part aren’t involved in the legal scandals that Planned Parenthood is in and they provide more complete care and they aren’t abortion clinics. People shouldn’t have to go to an abortion center to get a pap smear.

Abortions are 48% of Planned Parenthood’s non-government health center income. In total numbers they only account to 3% of services but giving 100 people, 100 condoms is 100 services. Abortions are their biggest service in terms of dollars.

Would you say that Boeing isn’t in the airline business because less than 1% of their sales is airplanes because they sell more than 99 spare parts down the road with every plane they sell? Businesses account for their business based on financial size. Not # of parts solid.

I don’t know why you bring up religion because I haven’t and it isn’t the reason why I think Planned Parenthood should be defunded.

          • Steve Farrell

Like I’ve just pointed out, PP clinics aren’t “abortion centers” either. Contraceptive services, STD services, and cancer-related services constitute the vast majority of the activity at PP clinics. Because surgeries such as vasectomies, tubal ligations, and abortions are reimbursed at a higher rate than those other services, that’s not a reliable indicator of the percentage of activity those procedures represent.

          • LoveTheLeast8

The question is whether “percentage of activity ” is time, money, or total numbers. Businesses use money as that measure in financial reports, quarterly stock conference calls. Weird that Planned Parenthood pushes an obscure metric at their main one. PR spin. They know being #1 in abortions in the U.S. is a PR drag. Most groups boast about being #1. PP boasts about a lot of things that they are not #1 in but downplayers the fact that they do more than 1 in 4 U.S. terminations.

          • Steve Farrell

No, what’s weird is that pro-lifers pretend that shutting down PP and replacing it with a health-care apparatus that panders to their moralism won’t create a huge market for unsafe illegal abortions. See? Even cheap religiosity is expensive in the long run.

          • LoveTheLeast8

            “that panders to their moralism”
And funding PP panders to your moralism. Point being?

Many states in the US only have 1 abortion clinic and don’t allow abortions after 20 weeks. And we don’t see illegal abortions going on. Illegal abortions are easy to stop. That is a red herring.

What kills the most humans is legal abortion as the U.S. abortion rate skyrocketed after legalized abortion. That’s a historical fact.

What is this religion thing you are stuck on? Weird.

          • Steve Farrell

“And funding PP panders to your moralism.”

Um, no, it simply treats women as human beings, who should be as safe from cancer, STDs or unwanted pregnancies as possible.

“the U.S. abortion rate skyrocketed after legalized abortion”

And are there reliable records about illegal abortions prior to Roe v. Wade? Doesn’t it stand to reason that the abortion rate may have been underreported when abortion was illegal?

          • LoveTheLeast8

Women being treated as human being is my values too. That is why I’m against women in the womb getting cut up.

“And are there reliable records about illegal abortions prior to Roe v. Wade? ”
Officially they were zero as there wasn’t reports until some states made it legal. Based on data surveys and accounts from abortion providers, about 100,000 illegal abortions were happening a year. That moved up to like 200-300k as some states like New York legalized abortion before Roe v Wade. After Roe v Wade when abortion legalization was mandated to all 50 states, it went up over 1.6 million. Abortion restrictions work. History shows that. Culture impacts it as well which is why the states with the lowest abortion rates in the U.S. have the highest pro-life identification and states with high pro-choice identification have high abortion rates. You can look at the research that Nate Silver of NY Times did on this.

          • Steve Farrell

“Women being treated as human being is my values too. That is why I’m against women in the womb getting cut up.”

Yes, only it seems that after these women are outside mommy’s tummy, you start developing issues about them.

          • http://www.facebook.com/john.platten.7 John Platten

Who cares, they have a right to choose back alley abortions if they want as long as they are willing to accept the consequences… Pro abortion people treat conception as an afliction and always want to negate the responsibilty of the person who expressed choice the night she conceived. Then they want to wipe away all consequence for that choice by removing the life of someone that has no choice…

    • Julia

Because pro-life people want women to get back-alley abortions! [sarcasm].

Also PP doesn’t do mamograms, call one and ask. This money would then go to clinics that actually do mamograms instead of one that pretends to while also killing millions of innocent people.

Besides, you are not makings sense. On you logic, so because assailants sometimes get hurt in armed robberies, we should make it legal because people do it anyway even though it is legal, and that way the assailants will be less likely to be hurt.

By the way, in California, we’ve already “gone back”, it’s legal for non-doctors to perform abortions. Also, abortion clinics are pretty much unregulated and uninspected anyway right now.

  • PAgirl

There seems to be something wrong with the petition. When I click on the link, the blank spaces for the petition don’t tell me what to type into them.

  • jess

It doesn’t matter ho many abortions they perform or why. Why should we defund a medical clinic for providing services that are currently LEGAL. This whole petition is disgusting.

  • Sarah

When, I went to the link, it didn’t tell you what info to give. Just empty boxes. Could you fix please.

  • Joanne

Over the past decade, Planned Parenthood’s federal funding increased from roughly $200,000,000 in 1999 to over $350,000,000 in 2009. During the same period, the number of abortions they performed also increased from about 198,000 to 334,000. Obviously, Planned Parenthood’s methods are not successful in reducing abortions, and we should stop wasting money on them. Furthermore, Planned Parenthood has been found guilty of Medicaid fraud and has six more whistle blower lawsuits pending. They do not deserve government funding.
