Pro-life professor wins discrimination lawsuit against University of North Carolina-Wilmington

More than seven years after filing a lawsuit against the University of North Carolina-Wilmington for religious and political discrimination, pro-life professor Mike Adams won his case in March. He is now using his case to make people more aware of this type of bias, which is rampant on college campuses.

Back in 2006, Adams, an associate professor, applied for promotion to full professor. He had published more peer-reviewed articles than most of his colleagues and had won three teaching awards, including Faculty Member of the Year. But Adams was nonetheless denied a promotion, and UNCW refused to provide a written explanation.

Why? Adams believed that it was because he is also an evangelical Christian and a popular conservative author at Townhall.com. After years of litigation, a jury in a U.S. District Court agreed.

“They concluded that the University of North Carolina Wilmington retaliated against Dr. Adams by denying him a promotion in 2006 and they retaliated against him because they did not like the views he expressed in his books and columns and speeches,” Adams’s lawyer, Travis Barham, told a local news station. “Basically, they didn’t like what he said in his own time.”

Needless to say, Adams’s colleagues really didn’t like what he had to say about abortion. He’s well-known for attacking abortion in a mocking, satirical fashion – one that drives humorless leftists nuts.

He also doesn’t mince words. In his most recent column on the topic, he wrote: “Every time I am in a discussion of abortion that turns to the so called rape exception, there are two common denominators. First, it is always a guy. Second, he’s always sexually active. If he is sleeping with a lot of women he really supports unrestricted abortion. So he just feigns concern for the rape victim in order to preserve unrestricted abortion so he can have unrestricted sex.”

Is it any surprise that Adams was denied a promotion, despite his skills and popularity with students? The advocates of “free speech” might as well have a Joe McCarthy-style blacklist against conservative and pro-life professors.

Meanwhile, pro-choice bullies like Professor Mireille Miller-Young can physically attack pro-lifers and (almost) get away with it. This is how a student of Miller-Young’s at the University of California-Santa Barbara described her on RateMyProfessor.com: “usually unprepared for class, cannot stand it when you disagree with her… lacks basic communication skills… assigns shock value reading to make points that she could otherwise not validate…When she feels she is losing a debate she resorts to insults and intimidation.”

From a completely objective standpoint, whom would you rather promote: Adams with his multiple teaching awards, or Miller-Young?

But we all know who would actually get it. Good for Adams and his legal team for standing up to the new McCarthyites, who use intimidation and discrimination to control the intellectual atmosphere on campus.
